Friendly Spirits

It was the first house my husband and I had owned and I was so excited about fixing it up. Every time I would paint or hang wallpaper, replace a rug, or even just hang a new picture, I would get this feeling that "someone" other than myself was very pleased with the result. There was just an atmosphere of goodwill in the house.

Then I started working evenings as did my husband. When I would get home from work about an hour before my husband, I started noticing that the porch light would be on, or if it had gotten cooler during the day, the heat would be turned up a little. And, I was never afraid to go into the house alone - it was as if there was someone welcoming me home. About three months after we moved there, I got the feeling that we were not alone In fact, I had the distinct impression there were TWO other "beings" or "spirits" (whatever you want to call them) there. They liked us and were enveloping us in their good feelings. It wasn't something I talked about to my husband - he would have thought I was crazy - doesn't believe in that stuff. But I did share it with a friend at work, who, altough somewhat skeptical, listened without judging me and seemed to believe my feelings.

One day I was in the yard working on my flowers. We had met our neighbors next door, but not really gotten acquainted with them. We were young and they were old and stayed in their house alot. That day, however, the gentleman next door came over to where I was working and struck up a conversation. We talked about where we were from, where we worked, etc. He asked how we were liking the house and I told him we were enjoying fixing it up. He said, "Well, you know that the couple who lived here before you died in that house, don't you?" Chills went up and down my spine. I knew right then who the spirits were that were living with us! He told me that the couple who had died had been elderly - she was ill and he was taking care of her. When she died, he called an ambulance, and before they got there, he died from a heart attack. He said they loved each other very much, but had never had any children and mostly just stayed to themselves. I got the feeling right then that they looked at my husband and I as the children they never had.

None of this scared me because I knew these were Good Spirits - not Ghosts! I remember the day they left our house. I was tearing out some bookshelves that I guess the man who lived there had put in. He was no carpenter and I commented to my husband that those were the tackiest book shelves I had ever seen - Ugly even! A cold breeze seemed to blow in the room and I got the distinct impression someone did not approve of my comment, and not only that, but were hurt by it. I immediately thought "I'm sorry - I didn't mean to hurt you," but it was too late - they were gone and I never felt their presence again.

I don't tell people about the kinds of things I have seen and the ESP I seem to have sometimes, because everyone thinks you're crazy. But I know that we are not alone on this earth - there are things we can't or don't see, but they are here.
